What Does the GST / VAT Calculator Do?
This calculator handles both directions of consumption-tax math: add tax to a net price (what will the customer pay?) and remove tax from a gross amount (how much of this receipt is tax?). Enter the amount and rate — or tap a preset button for common rates (5%, 12%, 18%, 28% GST; 20% and 10% VAT) — and the net amount, tax amount and gross total appear instantly.
The remove-tax direction uses the correct back-calculation: tax is extracted by dividing by (1 + rate), not by subtracting the rate — the mistake that quietly breaks countless invoices.
How to Use the Calculator
- Pick a direction: Add Tax (net → gross) or Remove Tax (gross → net).
- Enter the amount and the tax rate (type any rate or tap a preset).
- Read the three results — net, tax and gross — live as you type.

- Freelancers and small businesses — quote net, invoice gross, or reverse a tax-inclusive payment for the books.
- Shoppers — check what a "plus tax" price really costs, or how much tax hides in a receipt total.
